"Social Development held a workshop for Ehsan's Center elderly about Bashout knitting
Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Community Welfare Department, implemented an entertainment workshop entitled: The Bisht Industry in cooperation with the Center for Empowerment and Elderly Care (Ehsan).
This event aims to emphasize the importance of the elderly roles, highlight their contributions to social and economic development, introduce them to the necessary skills in making the Bisht, and teach them the basics of sewing the Bisht.
Mr. Ahmed Al-Salem, one of the owners of the Bisht Al-Salem store, presented the workshop. He explained the sewing of Bisht to the elderly, and. Al-Salem also described that sewing Bisht goes through seven stages, distributed among seven tailors, each of whom has a role in making the Bisht.
He also talked about wearing the appropriate Bisht according to the season: winter or summer, and choosing the suitable color before wearing it, whether in the morning or evening.
Mr. Al-Salem spoke about the history of the shop. He stated, "Al-Salem shop for Bishts was built in 1958. It is specialized in sewing Bishts, and the founder of the shop, Mustafa Muhammad Al-Salem, gave it to me and my brothers."
This workshop comes within the framework of the Ministry's approved plan regarding empowerment and awareness of the elderly ability to highlight their roles and enhance their ability to achieve cooperation through a series of community partnerships.
The Community Care Department seeks to hold workshops and activities to fill the elderly's free time with things that benefit them and create an atmosphere of joy and entertainment in their souls.
The Bisht is considered one of the most vital features of Qatari clothes, especially on religious, national, and social occasions. It dates to ancient history, even before Islam.
