“Social Development” organizes a workshop for designing Garangao bags
The Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Family Empowerment Department, organized a workshop entitled: Designing a Garangao Bag from Cloth, which lasted for two days from March 21 to 22, in Souq Waqif, as part of the activities of celebrating Garangao Night.
Mrs. Amal Al-Yafei presented the workshop and targeted girls from 4 to 9 years old. The girls were able to complete sewing 50 Garangao bags, and designing different shapes of bags for sweets and accessories were also prepared and cut. These sets of designs were allocated to each child participating in the workshop.
The girls participating in the workshop received a bag containing this collection, and then decorated it under the supervision of a team of female Ministry employees, in addition to women owners of Home Grown’s projects.
The Exhibition in Souq Waqif has allocated a permanent headquarters to support the Home Grown’s projects, and approximately eight projects are currently participating in it to display and sell Ramadan supplies as well as various products such as perfumes, incense, clothing, and accessories.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Social Development and Family is keen to support owners of Home Grown projects. It also focuses on developing small and medium enterprises, out of its belief in the importance of developing this promising sector to keep pace with the state’s effective economic policies within the framework of its vision for the year 2030. Small and medium enterprises play a pivotal role in achieving the state’s strategic development goals.
On another occasion, the Ministry celebrated Garangao Night, in which a group of children participated, wearing traditional folk costumes, and Garangao bags were distributed to them. This event contributed to creating an atmosphere of joy and fun among the children.
Mrs. Fatima Al Nuaimi, Director of the Family Empowerment Department, said that the Ministry is keen to take advantage of the wonderful atmosphere of Ramadan to transport children to the world of ancient Al-Fareej by holding a special celebration for this heritage occasion, which forms part of our social heritage in Qatar.
She explained that the celebration of the Ministry of Social Development and Family confirms the Ministry’s mission to strengthen family cohesion and revive the Qatari heritage, especially this heritage, which contributes to strengthening social relations between adults and children and works to consolidate family ties between family and neighbors and among the children of the same family.
