“Social Development” celebrates the International Youth Day
The Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Community Development Department, in cooperation with the Friends of the Environment Center of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in conjunction with International Youth Day, held an art workshop entitled Green Skill, Imagining the role of youth in building a sustainable future through art, on August 7 at the Friends of the Environment Center.
This workshop was presented by Mrs. Latifa Kulaib Al-Kuwari, Certified Life Skills Trainer and Visual Arts Coordinator. The green skill workshop aims to encourage participants to achieve sustainable development, spread awareness of environmental issues, and present new solutions in creative ways through the practice of art, in addition to enhancing cooperation and participation between youth and community institutions in building a sustainable future. It also explained the pivotal role of the Ministry of Social Development and Family with the Friends of the Environment Center in promoting environmental awareness in society.
Mrs. Latifa Al-Kuwari addressed several topics in this workshop, including Qatar's vision 2030, the environmental goals and the sustainability steps it has achieved. On the topic of the current environment in Qatar, Trainer Al-Kuwari said, "One of the challenges facing the State of Qatar in light of the rapid development is the country's endeavor to build a sustainable and prosperous future in various developmental, social, economic and environmental fields." While the trainer dealt with the perception of the environment in Qatar for the year 2040 in the third axis, in which she sought to discover the perceptions of the participants on how to improve the environment in Qatar by the year 2040. This axis focused on sustainable solutions and the role of the State of Qatar in hosting and organizing Expo 2023. It is about drawing and coloring techniques, where the different tools and techniques of drawing were presented to young people on canvas using acrylic and felt-tip pens.
With regard to the most prominent environmental problems, Mrs. Latifa Al-Kuwari explained the importance of preserving the environment and biological diversity on how to deal with the environment to improve the quality of life. It confirmed that the environmental marine challenges lie in the environmental impacts resulting from human activity, which negatively affect the marine environment.
The trainer, Latifa Al-Kuwari, gave advice to the youth, saying: "I urge the youth to be leaders in change by investing their efforts and energy in preserving the environment, creating sustainable solutions, facing challenges, participating, volunteering, contributing to community and environmental projects and initiatives, and spreading awareness about them in society."
For her part, the student Rima Ahmed Al-Hail, an affiliate of the Friends of the Environment Center, urged in a video clip that was broadcast during the workshop and discussed the importance of preserving the environment by following correct behavior and avoiding wrong practices. She stressed that the State of Qatar will become a green oasis in the coming years if everyone adheres to these instructions and follows the methods of sustainability and conservation of energy and water.
During the video, the content creator recommended the importance of avoiding dumping waste in the public gardens, parks and beaches they visit. Pollution that may be caused to the environment if the waste is left was discussed and its impact on public health, such as the spread of diseases and the destruction of that environment.
The green skill workshop emphasized envisioning the role of youth in building a sustainable future through art by encouraging participants to creatively express their vision of the future through art and drawing by directing participants to think creatively and use imagination to embody their vision.
These artworks completed by the youth were also reviewed, and the various visions and ideas related to envisioning the future of the environment in Qatar for the year 2040 were discussed. The interaction of the youth with the trainer was clear, as they created artistic paintings, ideas and sustainable creative solutions to address environmental challenges.
