Qatar Advocates for Human-Centered Social Development at CSocD63
New York – The State of Qatar actively participated in the 63rd Commission for Social Development session - CSocD63, held in collaboration with the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development. The event in New York focused on paving the way for the 2025 World Summit for Social Development and exploring the theme of “Advancing Social Development and Social Justice through Coordinated, Equitable, and Inclusive Policies."
Mr. Fahd bin Mohammed Al Khayarin, Assistant Undersecretary for Social Affairs, led the Qatari delegation.
The discussions centered on updating the global social contract to address pressing challenges, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, as the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda approaches its conclusion. Participants explored the need for resilient economic communities that ensure comprehensive and sustainable well-being, foster social cohesion, and mitigate risks to societal stability.
In his address to the session, Mr. Al Khayarin reaffirmed Qatar’s strong commitment to advancing social progress nationally and internationally. He hailed the upcoming 2025 World Summit for Social Development, which Qatar will host, as a crucial opportunity to address obstacles to the Sustainable Development Goals and identify practical solutions to global economic and societal challenges.
“The transformations of recent decades demand a new approach to economic and social policy,” stated Mr. Al Khayarin. “We must shift from traditional economic models to a human-centered economy that prioritizes well-being and advances social justice.” He further emphasized the importance of international cooperation in resolving armed conflicts and instability, which pose significant threats to sustainable development.
Mr. Al Khayarin reiterated Qatar’s dedication to supporting the global social development agenda by promoting human rights, ensuring equal opportunities across all sectors, and providing essential social services to all citizens and residents.
The session featured prominent speakers including H.E. Kaisa Juuso, Finland’s Minister of Social Affairs and Health; Dr. Laura Thompson, Deputy Director-General of the International Labor Organization; and representatives from the World Health Organization and the European Commission. Magdalena Sepúlveda Carmona, Director of the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development, moderated the panel discussion.

The Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Family Protection Section of the Social Protection Department, is set to launch the "Gharsa Program" in collaboration with the Department of Da'wah and Religious Guidance at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
