MSDF Promotes Inclusive Sports on National Sports Day 2025

The Ministry of Social Development and Family, in collaboration with Al Noor Institute for the Blind and Al Wakra Municipality, organized "Barrier-Free Steps" Initiative in celebration of National Sports Day 2025.

The event took place on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the sustainable seaside walkway for visually impaired individuals at Al Wakra Public Beach. This 500-meter walkway, the first of its kind in the region, features Braille-guided signboards and is constructed from recycled materials.

MSDF’s initiative aimed to promote physical activity among visually impaired individuals, emphasizing their inclusion in Qatari society and encouraging their participation in community activities. "Barrier-Free Steps" sought to empower this segment of society, fostering a sense of appreciation and respect by providing tailored activities.

The event featured a group walk for members of Al Noor Center for the Blind, the distribution of healthy snacks, and recreational and sports activities designed to integrate individuals from diverse backgrounds. This reinforced the Ministry’s commitment to human and social values.

The Ministry emphasized the role of sports in strengthening family bonds and fostering social development. Sports provide opportunities for everyone, including those with disabilities and mobility limitations, to participate in activities that promote social inclusion and encourage healthier lifestyles.

Mrs. Al Jazi Al Anzi, Head of Communications at MSDF, stated that the Ministry’s participation in this year’s National Sports Day reflects its belief in the importance of sports in building a healthy and active society. “Sports enhance individuals’ capabilities and provide greater opportunities for social engagement,” she said.

The event saw significant participation from representatives of partner organizations, reflecting the vision of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, in fostering national development. Sports play a fundamental role in Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to develop a healthy, progressive citizenry actively contributing to sustainable development. This initiative also reinforces humanitarian values, promotes generosity, and encourages active participation in society, fostering a more cohesive and united community.

The Ministry of Social Development and Family remains committed to supporting community members and enhancing their engagement in activities that contribute to the nation's progress and the realization of Qatar’s National Vision 2030.
