The Ministry of Social Development and Family organizes a Symposium (Green House) at Expo.
The Green House symposium "Sustainable architectural and environmental aspects" was organized by the Ministry of Social Development and Family in collaboration with the Gulf Cooperation Council Secretariat General. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates were among the participants. Mr. Nasser Muhanna Al-Mana, Director of the Citizens' Housing Department at Qatar's Ministry of Social Development and Family, chaired the symposium.
At the start of the symposium, Eng. Ahmed bin Eid Al-Habsi, Director General of the Urban Development Department of the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs of Saudi Arabia, addressed a number of initiatives, including the concept of green housing, the goal of creating green housing and its desired benefits, promoting sustainable ways of building green housing, green housing support applications, and the desired outcomes of these housing.
According to Engineer Ahmed bin Eid Al-Rajsi, green housing strives to decrease the carbon footprint of housing and the impacts of climate change on the improvement, visual appeal, and non-distortion of the natural environment, as well as the preservation of natural resources.
He emphasized that the desired benefits of green housing were numerous, including economic benefits such as reduced energy and water consumption, lower maintenance costs due to durable materials, health benefits such as improved internal quality through non-toxic and non-volatile organic materials, ventilation, and far fewer problems than mold and fungi. Environmental benefits include a lower impact on the environment.
Dr. Hanan Bint Amer Al-Jabri, Director General of Urban Planning in the Sultanate of Oman, addressed the "Vibrant Public Spaces" initiative, addressing the National Urban Development Strategy 2040, National Urban Planning Standards, National Policy Framework, and Application of Strategic Urban Standards in the classification of public squares and parks.
Dr. Hanan bint Amer Al-Jabri stated that the Ministry's most prominent roles in planning in balance with the environment, reducing the severity of cement blocks, and increasing greenery are fundamental plans, future cities, the "Develop Your Neighbourhood" initiative, and the "Vibrant Public Spaces" initiative.
Dr. Hanan bint Amer Al-Jabri outlined the aims of the vibrant Public Space Initiative,
which are to enhance the green area in residential areas and decrease the limit of cement mass, raising the percentage of green spaces per individual.
Eng. Nasser Adel Khraybat, Deputy Director General of Planning and Design at Kuwait’s Public Authority for Housing Welfare discussed green spaces and parks in new cities. He discussed the planning unit and green area hierarchies. He also discussed the afforestation strategy for Alma 'rah, Sabah Al-Ahmad, Jaber Al-Ahmad, West Abdullah Al-Mubarak, and South Sabah Al-Ahmad cities.
Engineer Khaled Abdullah Al-Kubaisi, Assistant Director of the Citizens' Housing Department at Qatar's Ministry of Social Development and Family, spoke about the "Sustainable Green Housing Neighborhoods" initiative. During his engagement, he discussed, among other things, the success of residential neighborhood design, the availability of public services in residential neighborhoods, the most important planning standards for the sustainability of residential neighborhoods, and models of some cities and residential neighborhoods in the State of Qatar, all of which contribute to Qatar's more environmentally friendly future.
Regarding public services to be available in residential neighborhoods, Eng. Khaled Abdullah Al-Kubaisi stated that they included the following: Educational services include: provision of kindergartens, primary, and secondary schools, after which intersections of roads to the north and north-west require health services, namely: The Family Health Unit, which contains a laboratory, as well as therapeutic and preventive services, a pharmacy and a dental clinic, which is also required after the intersection of roads
The Green Housing Symposium, themed "Sustainable architectural and environmental aspects," focused on quality-of-life factors and citizen well-being via environmentally friendly housing units. The involvement of a group of professionals and specialists from the GCC States has given this symposium significant importance and demonstrates the GCC States' determination to exchange and build experiences in the field of green housing.
