Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs (MSDF) Partakes in Activities of 69th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women
The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF) participated in several side events during the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.
Represented by Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al-Thani, the ministry took part in several events focusing on pivotal issues, including women's rights and their role in social and economic development.
At the event titled "Women of Gaza Rising for Freedom and Dignity," held at the UN headquarters in New York, Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al-Thani reaffirmed the State of Qatar's steadfast support for Palestinian women in Gaza.
She emphasized Qatar's unwavering support for women in Gaza, particularly in light of the challenging humanitarian conditions caused by the ongoing blockade and violence. She highlighted Qatar's efforts on both Arab and international fronts to halt the aggression against Gaza, which resulted in a ceasefire agreement.
Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al-Thani expressed the urgent need for the international community to support Palestinian women and ensure their rights amid ongoing violations. She stressed the importance of implementing international agreements to guarantee the protection of women in Gaza.
She reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and just peace for the Palestinian cause while ensuring stability in the region.
Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al-Thani also participated in a side event titled "Digital Trends: Women Entrepreneurs Shaping the Future Economy," which highlighted the opportunities and challenges faced by women in the field of digital entrepreneurship.
Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al-Thani emphasized the importance of supporting women in entering the digital economy and adapting to technological advancements shaping modern business. She highlighted Qatar's significant digital transformation under Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to position the country as a regional hub for technology and innovation.
She also reaffirmed the government's commitment to empowering women in business through incentives and training programs, stressing the vital role that female entrepreneurship plays in achieving economic independence and driving economic growth in Qatar.
Additionally, during the discussion on "The Care Economy: Valuing Paid and Unpaid Work," Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al-Thani showcased Qatar's inclusive social development strategies. These include initiatives such as flexible working hours, paid maternity leave, breastfeeding breaks, and childcare support, all aimed at enabling women's active participation in the workforce.
Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al-Thani highlighted that Qatar continues to strengthen its policies to support caregivers, whether paid or unpaid, to enhance the balance between work and family life.
