Prime Minister Participates in National Sport Day 2026 Activities
His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the 2026 National Sport Day activities organized by the Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF), the Qatar Foundation for Social Work (QFSW), and its affiliated centers at Al Bidda Park. His Excellency participated in several inclusive sporting and social programs, reviewing initiatives designed to enhance community engagement, promote the concept of social integration, and provide diverse societal groups the opportunity to interact in a shared environment.
The event was also attended by Her Excellency Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, alongside numerous senior officials from the Ministry, the Foundation, and its constituent centers. The festivities featured inclusive activities tailored for various age groups and social demographics, including persons with disabilities and the elderly. The event also highlighted local entrepreneurship, featuring "Home-Grown" projects—an MSDF initiative—and family businesses supported by the Social Development Center (Nama), reflecting the integration of sports, social welfare, and economic empowerment.
His Excellency Khalifa bin Issa Al Kubaisi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Family, emphasized that National Sport Day embodies the State’s commitment to public health and physical activity as a cornerstone of life quality. He noted that family participation in these events serves as a vital tool for strengthening domestic bonds and instilling healthy lifestyles. "The family is the primary partner in fostering positive behaviors," H.E. Al Kubaisi stated, adding that collective physical activity promotes values of cooperation and communication.
Complementing the focus on fitness, Ms. Buthaina Al Obaidly, Director of Family Empowerment at MSDF, highlighted the link between physical activity and healthy nutrition. She noted that participating in family projects provided diverse healthy food options, reinforcing the message that wellness extends beyond exercise to daily dietary habits. Similarly, Ms. Reem Al Ajami, Director of Community Care, reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to the social and athletic empowerment of persons with disabilities and the elderly, ensuring their active inclusion in all national initiatives.
Addressing the role of civil society, Mr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Hajri, Director of the Private Associations and Foundations Department, praised the participation of various NGOs, including the Mental Health Friends Association (Weyak), the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, and the Qatar Autism Society. He emphasized that empowering civil society organizations to participate in such national milestones maximizes their social impact as key partners in sustainable development.
Mr. Rashid Mohammed Al Hamdah Al Nuaimi, CEO of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work, remarked that the Foundation’s involvement reflects its dedication to national health goals. He noted that the QFSW centers designed inclusive programs that ensure persons with disabilities and the elderly are active participants rather than spectators. This sentiment was echoed by Mr. Khalid Mohammed Al Kuwari, Assistant CEO of QFSW, who described the event as a practical model for institutional and community integration.
Leaders from various specialized centers shared insights on the day’s impact: Mr. Ghanem Salah Al Ali (Nama) focused on economic empowerment; Ms. Fatima Al Saidi (Shafallah Center) highlighted the athletic capabilities of persons with disabilities; and Mr. Jabor Rashid Al Nuaimi (Wifaq) noted sports' role in family stability. Furthermore, Sheikha Najla bint Ahmed Al Thani (Dreama) and Ms. Manal Ahmed Al Mannai (Ehsan) emphasized how these activities build self-confidence in youth and enhance the quality of life for the elderly, respectively. Contributions from Mr. Fadl Mohammed Al Kaabi (Aman), Mr. Meshaal Abdullah Al Nuaimi (Al Noor Center), and Ms. Jawaher Mohammed Abu Alfin (Behavioral Healthcare Center) further underscored the holistic benefits of sports on behavioral and mental health.
The event concluded with a wide range of kinetic activities and family games, reinforcing the shared mission of the Ministry and the Qatar Foundation for Social Work to promote sports as a lifestyle. This national initiative remains a key driver in achieving the human development goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030, placing the well-being of the individual at the heart of the nation’s progress.
