The State of Qatar participates in the 12th session of the ESCWA Committee on Women in the Sultanate of Oman
The Ministry of Social Development and Family participated in the 12th session of the Committee on Women of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission, held in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, from 8 to 9 December. The session was attended by representatives of national mechanisms concerned with women's affairs and ministries and governmental organizations from member states.
In her opening speech, Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al Thani, Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs, welcomed the participants and thanked them for their interest in this important session, which focuses on the progress made in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action 30 years after their adoption. She stressed that the State of Qatar continues its ongoing support for women and enhancing their role in all national, regional, and international fields through various initiatives and programs launched or supported by the State.
Sheikha Sheikha added that the State of Qatar focuses on women's participation in all aspects of life and their vital role in achieving sustainable development. She pointed out that the state considers the full and effective participation of women a priority for achieving development in its economic, social, and environmental dimensions, and that Qatar National Vision 2030 attaches great importance to supporting the status of women and enhancing their participation in all fields.
She pointed out that the State of Qatar has achieved remarkable progress in supporting women's rights through national legislation and international commitments, such as promoting equal wages and increasing women's participation in the labor market, as the percentage of Qatari women's participation in the labor market reached 49% in 2023. She also announced that women constitute 20% of the judiciary in Qatar, with a plan to raise this percentage to 30% by 2030.
She continued that the State of Qatar has signed several important agreements to support women, including an agreement with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women to support the implementation of its strategic plan 2022-2025, in addition to a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Social Development and Family to enhance cooperation in the field of women's empowerment. She also stressed that Qatar pays special attention to the field of women's entrepreneurship, as studies have shown that Qatari women contribute effectively to economic growth, and are supported through a range of services aimed at enhancing their participation in entrepreneurship.
At the end of her speech, she stressed that the State of Qatar will continue to support women's rights and enhance their position in society, noting that the state's commitment to women's rights is in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and international conventions.

This participation reflects the State of Qatar’s active presence in international initiatives aimed at preparing future leaders.
