"Social Development" wins three awards at the sixth disabled theatre festival in Riyadh
During the sixth theatre festival for people with disabilities, the curtain has fallen, and Qatar won three awards, which went to Maryam Al-Kuwari in second place as the best actor with a disability, and Mr. Ahmed Issa and Kaltham Al-Mannai won the award for the best actor without a disability. This festival was hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the city of Riyadh and lasted from 3-9 this month.
The play "Al-Rehlah" from the Sultanate of Oman won the award for the best theatrical performance, while the play "Al-Merkaz" from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia came in second place as the best theatrical performance. From the Kingdom of Bahrain, the play "Kashta" came third.
Qatar also presented its theatrical show entitled "From the Chair to the Top", which revolves around a group of actors and their director who are rehearsing a theatrical show they want to present to the audience. In this rehearsal, the director does not like what the actors present because they do not feel what they are presenting. Through that, the message that he wants to deliver through his theatrical text was not sent to the audience. Then the conflict between them begins with the director. At the end of the show, the director's basic idea is delivered.
It is worth that this festival is a station for expressing the creative energies of people with disabilities who are interested in theatrical art. The delegation was headed by Ms. Najat Daham Al-Abdullah, Director of the Family Department, Ms. Reem Al-Ajmi, Head of the Elderly and People with Disabilities Section, Ms. Ruqaya Abel, Elderly and People with Disabilities Studies Specialist, and members and actors of the play.
Mrs. Najat, Head of the Qatari delegation, stated that the festival seeks to invest in the capabilities of this group, work to employ them, and highlight their issues of concern to the human community. Thus, it contributes to their positive interaction in achieving societal development, achieving creativity in all its forms, and enhancing them.
She also thanked the Kingdom for the organizing efforts that accompanied the festival in its sixth edition. Mrs. Al-Abdullah added that this festival has become one of the important events which contributed to raising confidence among the disabled in this aspect so that we will see them in the coming years more developed and creative.
Ms. Reem Al-Ajmi confirmed Qatar's hosting of the festival in its seventh edition. She also praised the organizational aspects that accompanied the days of this festival, which is of great importance to the disabled who are considered a vital part of society and have different creativity, so they show their latent creativity through art.
The Director, Ibrahim Lari, added that the Theater provided a fertile environment that never sees disability as an obstacle to creativity. He expressed his happiness in participating in this festival that receives the attention of the Ministry, thanking the Authority of People with Disabilities to make this festival successful.
As an actress with disability, Mariam Al-Kuwari expressed her happiness with this award. She confirmed that this festival is an opportunity to highlight the bright examples of theatrical works for the disabled so that they can take their part in the artistic scene and establish this culture in society. In the end, she expressed her great thanks and appreciation for this Gulf festival, which cares for people with disabilities.
In conclusion, several dignitaries, heads of delegations, and members of the jury were honored, and shields were distributed among the winners. The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, gave two shields, which were handed over by the head of the Qatari delegation, Mrs. Najat Al-Abdullah, to each of the following: The Authority of People with Disabilities and the Executive Office.
It is worth mentioning that the seventh Theater festival will be hosted by Qatar in 2024, noting that the first edition of this festival was launched in Doha in 2009.
