"Social Development" participates in the 62nd session of the Commission for Social Development at the United Nations Headquarters in New York
The Ministry of Social Development and Family participated in the 62nd session of the Commission for Social Development at the United Nations Headquarters in New York with a delegation of specialists headed by Mr. Fahd Muhammad Al-Khayarin, Assistant Under-secretary for Social Development Ministry, under the title of fostering social development and social justice through social policies to accelerate progress on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to achieve the overarching goal of poverty eradication.
Mr. Al-Khayarin praised the efforts of the Commission during the 61st Session of the United Nations Commission and its adopted decisions, the most important of which is promoting full and productive employment and providing decent job opportunities for all as a means of overcoming inequalities to accelerate recovery from the “Covid-19” pandemic and fully implement the Sustainable Development Plan for 2030.
In his speech, Mr. Al-Khayarin pointed out that the international commitment emerging from this declaration to eradicate poverty requires fruitful cooperation between all parties to eliminate the essential causes of poverty, as wars are the challenging obstacles to development because they destroy infrastructure and service facilities and the displacement and asylum of residents, which causes Expansion of poverty.
He added that the continued aggression of the Israeli occupation forces against the people of Palestine and the comprehensive and systematic destruction of civilian neighborhoods and vital medical, educational, cultural, media, and industrial infrastructure in the Gaza Strip represents clear evidence of the dire effects of war. Therefore, stability and peace constitute a fundamental pillar of sustainable development. He emphasized the need to make efforts to end the occupation, deter violators of international law and human rights laws, and resolve international disputes through peaceful means.
He also praised the distinguished partnership of the State of Qatar with the United Nations, which strengthens the state’s role in international multilateral cooperation to confront global challenges. He explained that the state is looking forward to increasing partnerships to ensure a prosperous development future.
The efforts of Doha International Family Institute (DIFI), which participated in the side event held on the sidelines of the session, were also praised, as the institute presented a paper entitled Exploring the Digital Landscape: Strengthening Resilient Families in a Changing World.
