Awareness workshop entitled Start with your child to build your country

“Social Development” holds a workshop entitled “Start with your child to build your country”

The Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Community Development Department, held an awareness workshop entitled Start with your child to build your country, coinciding with World Mental Health Day, held every year on 10 October. It aims to highlight the importance of their mental health and safety and increase awareness of its problems and its effects on them in particular and on society in general.

Some psychologists from the Ministry of Health and some consultants in some centers participated in this workshop. The meeting room occurs at the Social Development Center - Pearl (9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, 10 October). Dr. Yahya Samir, child and adolescent psychiatrist, presents a working paper discussing the role of parents and teachers in promoting mental health. Dr. Hani Ibrahim Al-Shami, a psychologist from the Parental Care Department, addresses the importance of mental health in building societies free of psychological illnesses. Psychologist Professor Sarah Muhammad Al-Awwad presents the characteristics of adolescence and the techniques for dealing with it.

In his speech, Dr. Yehia Samir, child and adolescent psychiatrist, stated: It is a blessing to be a parent. Raising a healthy child is an important responsibility, yet it is also a great source of satisfaction. Therefore, effective communication and emotional support for parents reduce the chances of their children developing psychological illnesses that affect their physical and mental health. After meeting the child and his parents and arriving at an accurate diagnosis, the psychiatrist recommends exercising and eating a diet. It also provides him and his parents with lifestyle advice that helps alleviate psychological disorders.

The psychologist, Professor Sarah Muhammad Al-Awwad, said that parents have a great responsibility to protect their children from exposure to psychological disorders and depression by acquiring educational skills in dealing with the different stages that their children go through and providing possible solutions that contribute to improving their psychological, emotional and social condition. She called for children's attention to be directed towards the correct Islamic approach to provide them with the necessary skills to deal with the problems and challenges they face from the conduct of the Companions and followers.

The Department of Community Development notes the importance of the Ministry of Social Development in highlighting this event that the Ministry adopts every year, through which all concerned parties review their efforts and highlight their plans, projects, and supportive programs that they provide to create awareness in the context of mental health.

She added that the State of Qatar has achieved a clear achievement in providing a healthy and comfortable environment, improving the level of psychological comfort for everyone, providing facilities and plans for the family, and increasing awareness of mental illnesses and their negative effects by achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030.
