Social Development and Family Participates in the Dialogue Session on the Role of Arab Children in Confronting Climate Change in Abu Dhabi
Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, participated in the dialogue organized by the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, the Arab Council for Children and Development and the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND), which was held in Abu Dhabi and both children Ibrahim al-Musaleh and Nawrah al-Nabit were nominated to represent the State of Qatar. The interactive session was entitled "The role of Arab children in the face of climate change"
within the framework of the work of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) The session, hosted by the Green Education Platform in the Green Region in COP28, saw an active participation of more than 20 children from various Arab countries. (United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Sultanate of Oman, Libya and Egypt), which makes an important step towards empowering new generations and engaging them in discussions related climate change.
The session covered several themes, including understanding the climate crisis and food security, developing a children's climate dictionary and encouraging children to participate effectively and enhance their understanding of climate concepts. The session also included skill and technical activities to stimulate interaction and encourage children to present their ideas in creative ways.
The session was attended by Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General for Social Affairs at the League of Arab States, Reem bint Abdullah Al-Falasi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Fayez Ali Al-Mutairi, Director-General of the Arab Labor Organization, Dr. Hassan Al-Beblawi, Secretary-General of the Arab Council for Childhood and Development, Nasser Al-Qahtani, Executive Director of the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND), in addition to experts in the field of climate change, The debate was enhanced and children had a unique opportunity to interact directly with decision makers thanks to the guidance and observations on children's interventions provided by them.
