Qatar Participates in the Second Meeting of the Permanent Committee for Women's Affairs
The State of Qatar, represented by Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al Thani, Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs at the Ministry of Social Development and Family, participated in the second meeting of the Permanent Committee for Women's Affairs of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Supreme Council for Women in the Kingdom of Bahrain and attended by high-level delegations from the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, and the State of Kuwait.
The committee coordinates joint efforts among GCC countries on women's issues. It aims to strengthen cooperation, unify visions on women's affairs, empower women, and foster their progress and leadership.
The second meeting reviewed the Ministerial Council's decision (162) from its November 28, 2024, session in Kuwait. This decision endorsed the joint Gulf action strategy for women's affairs in the GCC countries (2024-2030), adopted at the tenth meeting of the Committee of Ministers of Social Affairs/Development in the GCC countries held in Doha in September 2024. The meeting addressed proposals from the General Secretariat regarding developing executive procedures for the strategy's key areas, with the active participation of all member states in coordination with the GCC General Secretariat.
Furthermore, the meeting discussed the comprehensive vision prepared by the GCC General Secretariat, in collaboration with the State of Kuwait, for a side event focusing on the contributions of GCC women in modern technology. This event will be held during the upcoming session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York City next March. It aims to highlight the significant achievements of Gulf women in digital transformation and their impactful contributions. The committee members also reviewed the proposed timeline for the event.
