Qatar Participates in High-Level Meeting on Women, Peace, and Security in New York
The State of Qatar, represented by Her Excellency Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Minister of Social Development and Family, participated in the High-Level Ministerial Meeting on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS). The meeting at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly discussed women's roles in promoting international peace and the challenges related to their empowerment.
In her address, Her Excellency expressed her gratitude to the Kingdom of Morocco for organizing the meeting, commending the vital role of UN Women in empowering women globally.
She states that this year marks a crucial milestone, as it coincides with the 25th anniversary of the adoption of Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000), calling for intensified efforts to bolster women's participation in peace processes and decision-making.
Her Excellency also reaffirmed the State of Qatar's steadfast commitment to the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, noting Qatar's joining of the UN Secretary-General's initiative on the "Shared Commitment to Advancing Women's Participation in Peace Processes." She further highlighted that women's empowerment is a national priority, where Qatar has achieved tangible progress in promoting their participation and leadership across various sectors.
Her Excellency addressed the dire humanitarian conditions facing women in conflict zones, particularly in Gaza. She commended the resilience of Palestinian women and stressed the urgent need to intensify international efforts to ensure accountability and protect women around the world.
In concluding her statement, Her Excellency affirmed that the State of Qatar will remain an active partner in supporting collective efforts to realize the vision of Women, Peace, and Security, and to work towards building a more just, sustainable, and peaceful future for all.
