Qatar participates in the 6th Disabled People's Theatre Festival in Riyadh
Represented by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, Qatar is participating in the Sixth Gulf Theater Festival for the Disabled, which is being hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh. This is during the period from the third to the ninth of this December, coinciding with the International Day of Disabilities, with the theatrical performance "From the Chair to the Summit" directed by Ibrahim Lari, with the participation of several actors with disabled people.
Enhancing the confidence in the hearts of the disabled, this festival aims to highlight their talents and abilities in the theatrical field. It is also an opportunity for them to present their issues in their way within the framework of the artistic work and to engage them in society showing their abilities because they have enormous creative energies. Those people are seen as an important group in society, so they have rights as well as duties towards their communities.
Theatre is one of the essential cultural platforms available to persons with disabilities to express their issues, ambitions, dreams, and concerns. It is also culturally, educationally, psychologically, and socially important for their needs, as well as the entertainment value. Actors with special needs stood onstage in a live theatrical performance that is presented directly to the audience without any barrier requiring courage and trust from the disabled. This contributes to enhancing self-confidence and raising a person's morale, in addition to discovering emotional potential. Participation and attendance at this cultural festival are one of the largest intellectual and physical contributions of persons with disabilities who possess creativity and abilities as distinct as any member of society.
The Ministry is keen on regular participation in this festival which came as a belief in the importance of theater as one of the cultural and artistic means to integrate people with special needs into society, to promote the positive energies and latent capabilities of this group, and to use the theater to explode their creative energies. This participation is also a crucial step in the GCC's progress in its interest in the cultural care of persons with disabilities, which is just as important as the social, health, and psychological care they provide to its citizens.
