MSDF Participates in Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan
The Ministry of Social Development and Family, through its Family Empowerment Department, is showcasing a delegation of "Home-Grown" projects at Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan, throughout April 2025.
This participation aims to empower these national projects, supporting Qatar's economy and fostering sustainable development. By providing platforms at local and international exhibitions like Expo 2025, the Ministry enables project owners to market their products, enhance their competitive edge, and contribute to economic growth. The initiative also encourages local production and self-employment among Qatari families, with a particular emphasis on the vital role of women in strengthening the domestic economy.
The diverse array of "Home-Grown" projects at the expo highlights Qatar's rich cultural heritage through traditional crafts such as Sadu weaving, palm frond work, Al Nagda (gold embroidery), traditional boat making, and henna art.
Ms. Bahia Al-Sada, owner of the "Heritage and Identity" project, a participant in Expo 2025 Osaka, shared, "My project centers on all aspects of Qatari heritage and identity, something I began exploring 15 years ago."
She further explained, "My deep appreciation for traditional fashion and heritage inspired me to express this passion through practical, everyday items like clothing and dolls crafted in an authentic folk style, with the aim of teaching and showcasing our diverse traditional crafts."
Reflecting on her involvement in Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan, Ms. Bahia Al-Sada described it as "a unique and distinguished opportunity" to experience new cultures and introduce Qatar's authentic culture and heritage to a global audience.
Ms. Mona Al-Sulaiti, owner of the "Darz Al-Oud" project, another participant at Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan, stated, "My project specializes in sewing and embroidery. Since starting in 2004, what began as hand-stitched creations for family and friends has grown into a passion for various handicrafts."
She added, "The concept for 'Darz Al-Oud' took shape during a sewing and advanced machine training course in Switzerland. Following this intensive learning, I acquired the necessary equipment and launched my project."
Regarding her experience at Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan, Ms. Al-Sulaiti affirmed it was "a wonderful and successful experience." She noted the keen interest of the Japanese public in her products, with frequent inquiries about the thread's origin and production.
In a special statement, Ms. Fatima Al-Nuaimi, Director of the Family Empowerment Department at the Ministry, emphasized, "We are proud to participate in Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan, showcasing Qatar's authentic heritage and culture through the involvement of distinguished national project owners, facilitating the marketing of their products to a global audience."
This participation by the Ministry of Social Development and Family aligns with national efforts to achieve the pillars of sustainable development outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030. It is anticipated to significantly strengthen the role of "Home-Grown" project owners in bolstering the national economy, preserving and promoting Qatar's heritage, and establishing a sustainable platform to showcase their innovations to a diverse international audience.
