MSDF Celebrates World Down Syndrome Day

The Ministry of Social Development and Family, through the Family Affairs and Foster Care Department, in collaboration with Shafallah Center, celebrated World Down Syndrome Day, observed annually on March 21st. This year’s celebration took place on Wednesday, March 19th, with a special event titled "My Special Cake" held at S O C I É T É Coffee Shop in Msheireb, the vibrant heart of Doha.

The Ministry aimed to use this celebration to promote social inclusion for individuals with Down syndrome, develop their motor and cognitive skills, and enhance their sensory skills. Additionally, the event focused on fostering their creativity and social skills.

The event was an enjoyable and innovative experience that combined fun and learning, including the decoration of cakes, and the distribution of healthy meals to participants.

In a special statement, Mrs. Reem Al-Ajmi, Director of the Ministry's Community Care Department, explained that the United Nations General Assembly officially designated March 21st as World Down Syndrome Day to raise awareness about the condition, highlight the achievements of individuals with Down syndrome, and support their inclusion in society. She also noted that the Ministry plays a key role in this effort through its community care programs, which include training programs for professionals in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental entities.

Furthermore, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting and caring for individuals with Down syndrome as part of its broader mission to implement strategies and policies aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to achieve sustainable social development.
