Ministry of Social Development and Family Takes Part in an Educational and Interactive Celebration with Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum on World Children’s Day.
The Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Family Development Department, joined the Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum (3-2-1) in hosting an educational and interactive World Children’s Day celebration at the museum’s headquarters. The event brought together a wide range of national and international organizations dedicated to children’s rights, development, and social empowerment.
The celebration formed part of a broader collaborative effort to promote children’s rights and to strengthen values of participation, creativity, and experiential learning. Throughout the day, children engaged in hands-on activities designed to blend learning with fun and exploration. The program featured a variety of educational workshops, creative art spaces, and purposeful games aimed at fostering self-expression and building confidence. It also offered experiences that combined sports culture with modern, interactive learning methods to inspire curiosity and personal growth.

The event also featured a rich panel discussion with the participation of representatives from various national and international institutions. Among them were the “It’am” initiative, represented by Sheikha Anwar Nasser Al Thani, and the Ministry of Public Health, represented by Dr. Madiha Kamal — Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Head and Senior Consultant of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.
UNESCO also took part in the discussion, represented by Ms. Sarah Yunjung Jung, Deputy Director of the Analysis and Communication Center – Doha. Joining them were the Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict (PEIC) program under the Office of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, as well as Education Above All, represented by Ms. Moza Al-Kamali.
The session evolved into a dynamic, interactive space that explored children’s rights from multiple perspectives, including their rights to education, protection, health, sports, and equal opportunities. Speakers underscored the need for stronger collective action to create safe, stimulating environments that support children’s development and encourage their engagement in society. The discussion was enriched with inspiring examples and real-life experiences that deepened public awareness of these essential rights.
Students from Omar Bin Al-Khattab School presented a theatrical performance illustrating, in a simple and accessible way, children’s fundamental rights to health, education, and sports. Children from other schools also took part with multilingual presentations, expressing their rights in their own voices and languages, a powerful reminder of the universality of children’s rights and the importance of giving every child the space to speak for themselves.
The Ministry of Social Development and Family hosted an art workshop encouraging children to express themselves through drawing and creative design. The museum, meanwhile, organized several interactive sessions, including a story-building workshop aimed at sparking imagination, and another where children decorated a symbolic hot-air balloon with drawings and messages reflecting their dreams and their vision of the world.
At the close of the event, children penned heartfelt messages addressed to their peers around the world, expressing hopes for peace, good health, and equal opportunities. These messages were then symbolically released on a balloon carrying their dreams and aspirations toward open horizons.
On this occasion, Ms. Nouf Al-Abdullah, Assistant Director of the Family Development Department, emphasized that celebrating World Children’s Day is an important opportunity to raise awareness of children’s rights and to empower them to express themselves within safe, interactive, and educational environments. She noted that the event aligns with the country’s broader efforts to support childhood development and nurture a generation that is creative, aware, and capable of contributing positively to society consistent with Qatar National Vision 2030.
She also added that the ministry continues its transition from a care-based approach to one centered on empowerment, through developmental initiatives designed to strengthen children’s abilities and prepare them for active participation in society. She stressed the importance of sustainable national partnerships to support this group and reinforce their role as key contributors to a cohesive society and a prosperous future for the nation.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation and partnership with various national institutions to ensure inclusive and safe educational and cultural environments for all children, and to reinforce their role as a cornerstone in building a cohesive society and a prosperous future for the nation.
