The 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The Minister of Social Development emphasized the importance of maintaining the natural structure of the family and expressed Qatar's solidarity with families suffering occupation and war

The State of Qatar, represented by Her Excellency Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misnad, Minister of Social Development and Family, participated in the high-level family protection event, which comes on the sidelines of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In this context, Her Excellency delivered an opening speech, during which she emphasized the need to protect the family system in light of the intellectual transformations of the modern world and said: "This event comes at a time where the institution of the family is subjected to unprecedented attacks to reduce and weaken its role in society, which are destructive trends behind which some anti-family ideologies stand."

Her Excellency acknowledged the need to increase international efforts to safeguard the family and enhance mechanisms for joint action, and accordingly, the State of Qatar has launched a global pledge to protect the family system from all the severe security, social and intellectual changes it faces, seeking to weaken and reduce the role of the family and change its natural structure. The declaration has been signed by 29 countries worldwide. The provisions of the Declaration include the protection of families living in war and conflict, including families in Palestine and those living in situations of natural disasters, displacement, and asylum, as they are the most vulnerable groups that are increasingly exposed to risks, vulnerability, and various human rights violations.

With regard to the family and cybersecurity, H.E. Ms. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misand, stressed the need for children to enjoy digital benefits, where protection must be provided to ensure that digital software and tools are maximized without violations affecting children's safety and security, stating: "It has become necessary to balance the advantages and disadvantages of the Internet with the need to adopt a multidimensional approach that places the best interest of the child at the forefront of information technology policies and strategies”.

Her Excellency concluded her speech by stressing Qatar's firm position on the support and protection of the family in accordance with the traditional concepts agreed upon in the definition of the family, consisting of father, mother and children, and strengthening international cooperation to protect the family from all security, intellectual and technological threats, pointing to the need to accelerate the pace of work to protect families under occupation and armed conflict.
