Social Development and Family Concludes "Wa’ay" Campaign on Cyber Security
The Ministry of Social Development and the Family, represented by the Department of Information Systems, concluded a digital security awareness campaign designed to raise the level of awareness and culture among the ministry employees in relation to information security. The campaign targeted leadership positions, employees and contractors through which many different methods have been adopted that have contributed to raising awareness of cybersecurity. Awareness lectures and publications were installed throughout the Ministry's buildings as part of the campaign's activities. Beside all that is mentioned, weekly awareness messages and educational videos that are exhibited on the Ministry's screens and sent through email.
The campaign aims to spread awareness and help employees learn how to detect fraud attempts, cybercrimes and protect themselves from them, the campaign is one of the initiatives and objectives of the Department of Information Systems and is fully committed to constantly warn the Ministry's employees against the fraudulent strategies pursued by fraudsters to steal their information and money.
It also contributed to educating employees about the importance of saving personal data and not disclosing it through fake links or anonymous messages except through official methods, and included the objectives of the awareness campaign, and promoting safe behavior with best practices and preventive precautions.
The campaign's message revolved around the attractive slogan: "Waai" and is based on providing advice on how to identify fraud attempts and how to respond to them, and these tips also emphasize the need for employees not to share their passwords and not to respond to fake phone calls.
This campaign is part of the Department's ongoing efforts to organize extensive email campaigns and awareness workshops to monitor fraud attempts and fake online messages. Useful tips on how to maintain personal information and secure practices are published on the Ministry's website periodically. This is in addition to the frequent alerts that are sent periodically, on e-mail, which serve to remind employees of the need to be careful of several new phenomena in the field of phone fraud attempts and phishing.
In line with the efforts aimed at protecting the Ministry's employees from fraud and cybercrime, the campaign conducted a simulation of phishing messages sent to monitor the mechanism of dealing with suspicious messages by recipients and provided advice to avoid future phishing attack, the campaign concluded with the distribution of questionnaires that included potential security scenarios to assess its usage.
Mr. Ahmed Khalil Abdullah, Director of Information Systems Department, stated about this campaign : “ that we have launched a conscious campaign to sensitize the Ministry's staff on the importance of taking caution to avoid being a victim of phishing and wire fraud attacks, which use technology to trick digital users into obtaining their personal information and data. The campaign included several complementary axes to promote the concept of safe use of the Internet, in addition to regularly updating software and applications, using secure online communications”.
