Ministry of Social Development and Family Wins GCC e-Government Award
The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF) has achieved a new milestone in its record of digital transformation and inclusive services by winning the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) e-Government Award in the category of Best Initiative in Digital Inclusivity. This recognition was earned for its participation with the "Sokoon" application, which is dedicated to digitizing the Unified Arabic Sign Language Dictionary.
The award was announced during a ceremony hosted by the State of Kuwait on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting for Post, Communications, and e-Government, organized by Kuwait's Central Agency for Information Technology (CAIT). The event saw broad participation from various communications and digital transformation entities in the GCC countries, with Qatar being represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
The "Sokoon" application is considered one of the most prominent digital initiatives launched by the MSDF to reinforce the principle of digital inclusivity and enhance communication between persons with disabilities and community members easily and conveniently, through the development of a unified digital dictionary for Arabic Sign Language.
The Ministry affirmed that this victory embodies its firm commitment to realizing Qatar National Vision 2030 and institutionalizing the principles of comprehensive digital transformation that utilizes technology to serve people. This is achieved by innovating digital solutions that foster social inclusion and empower persons with hearing disabilities to communicate and access knowledge through the Unified Arabic Sign Language Dictionary, thereby contributing to raising awareness and facilitating equitable societal interaction.
