The Ministry of Social Development and Family promotes the value of compassion on International Family Day
The Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Family Development Department, participated in an awareness activity in collaboration with Qatar Foundation, represented by the Doha International Family Institute and Pre-University Education. This activity targeted a group of students on the occasion of International Family Day, which is celebrated on May 15th each year. The activity was part of the "Plant a Value" initiative, which this year carries the slogan "Our Compassion is Our Strength."
As part of the activity, number of students planted a variety of seedlings to emphasize the value of compassion and to promote good morals such as humility, tolerance, honesty, and integrity which are key ethical values encouraged by our noble religion.
Value of Compassion manifests in many forms, including the compassion that parents show to their children, the compassion towards one's parents, the compassion towards the poor and orphans, and animal welfare. Compassion encompasses many meanings such as empathy, altruism, affection, and forgiveness. Through this compassion, Islam aims to create a strong and cohesive society characterized by justice, security, virtue, and altruism, where all forms of compassion are embodied and practiced.
The "Our Ethics" campaign aims to promote good morals and positive behaviors within society. It seeks to motivate youth to adopt the noble ethics of our Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him, and to honor individuals who contribute to ethical initiatives within the community. The campaign also aims to recognize and honor individuals with exemplary morals and significant impact in their fields of work and specialization.
The award will honor several categories of morally influential figures who have useful initiatives. It includes four categories - Juniors and Adolescents: For 7-14 years old groups and 14-18 years old groups respectively, Individual Contributions: For 19 to 45 years old individuals who have made significant ethical contributions, and finally Appreciation of Our Ethics: For dedicated and loyal individuals in their endeavors.
It's worth mentioning that Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, launched the "Our Ethics" award in 2017. The award aims to highlight the link between knowledge and good morals and to honor young members of society who embody ethical values and behaviors. It encourages youth to spread compassion and empathy in society and motivates them to reflect these values in their daily lives. Additionally, a different ethical value will be launched annually to promote ethical conduct within the community.
