Adoption of the first regional classification of persons with disabilities HE, Maryam Al-Misnad: The adoption of the classification puts the Arab group at the forefront of the global efforts The second workshop on Arab classification of disabilities

The delegations participating in the second workshop on the Arab classification of disability unanimously adopted the document of the standard Arab classification, at the closing session of the workshop, which was chaired by Her Excellency Mrs. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misnad, Minister of Social Development and Family. The workshop was hosted by the State of Qatar represented by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, in cooperation with the General Secretariat to the League of Arab States.

Her Excellency the Minister of Social Development and Family affirmed that the adoption of the classification puts the Arab group at the forefront of the global efforts as the first region in the world to set this precedent in a significant global dossier.

His Excellency, Minister Delegate, Tariq Al-Nabulsi, Director of the Department of Development and Social Policies at the League of Arab States, stressed that the State of Qatar is a pioneer in initiatives that serve society in general and closely people with disabilities.

During the press conference held, at the closing of the workshop, His Excellency, Minister Tariq Al-Nabulsi praised the great efforts of the team work, which paid attention to all minute details. He also noted the importance of the visit of the delegations to Al Bayt Stadium in the city of Al Khor, where they witnessed the huge arrangements made by the State of Qatar for people with disabilities during the 2022 World Cup, noting that the delegation was briefed on the vital efforts made by the State in sports related to people with disabilities such as basketball and others.

Ms. Najat Al-Abdullah responded to a question on the local classification of people with disabilities and the achievements made for this category: that the State of Qatar has achieved a lot in the support and care for people with disabilities, in terms of education and social security, and the protection of their rights by laws. She stressed that the state's care for this category and their inclusion in all fields including sports, education, universities, and supports them and facilitates their lives.

Ms Al-Abdullah noted the Ministry's efforts in the field of housing for people with special needs and employment and considered that the workshop was able to set the broad outlines of a unified classification of disability at the Arab level, which will positively benefit the people with disabilities at the Arab level.

Ms Najat Al-Abdullah noted the Qatari experience in supporting and caring for people with special needs, as the State of Qatar has ratified the agreements that support the rights of people with special needs and empower them in society in terms of job opportunities and social rights, adding that, Qatar care for people with disabilities in various aspects including educational, health, sports and other fields, and further stated that the State of Qatar is keen to bring all the advanced devices to support and empower them in all aspects of life. She pointed that there are constant efforts being made in this field beside recommendations to employ people with disabilities in all sectors of the State, in the public and private sectors, and to oblige companies to employ them. She described the Arab classification of disability achieved in the workshop, as a great achievement that contributes to the development of the services and intensification of the support provided to them. His Excellency, Ayman Al-Mufleh, Minister of Social Development in the sisterly Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and Head of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, praised the readiness of the State of Qatar to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, especially the preparations related to providing all facilities to fans with disabilities who would come to support their countries and enjoy the championship atmosphere.
