Social Development Participates in Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign in cooperation with Qatar Cancer Society

The Ministry of Social Development and Family, represented by the Community Development Department, held a breast cancer awareness campaign in cooperation with the Qatar Cancer Society titled Flourish. The campaign coincides with World Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it is held annually in October.

The event included the distribution of awareness leaflets to the Ministry’s female employees. It also introduced the factors for reducing the incidence of breast cancer and ways of preventing it. They introduced the locations where early detection and examination services can be found and the specialized treatment locations for these cases to facilitate access.

This campaign also aims to raise community awareness, especially among women, of the risk factors that increase the possibility of breast cancer and to introduce methods of preventing it and the mechanism of self-detection.

Mrs. Hadeel Al-Ajeel, Director of the Ministry’s Community Development Department, said that their participation in this awareness event this year is to shed light on the importance of early detection and to educate and sensitize community members, especially women, to the importance of conducting regular examinations to ensure their safety.

Early screening also contributes significantly to recovery, especially with the development of science and medicine, and breast cancer is considered more responsive to recovery when detected early.

Ms. Nour Muhammad Makkia, a counselor from the Qatar Cancer Society, commented that the society seeks to shed light on the risk factors that increase the possibility of contracting the disease. It is concerned with informing women of the signs and symptoms of the disease and conducting periodic examinations to detect abnormal changes in women, which is considered a preventive step towards recovery from the disease.
